Batch production in the school environment: An introduction to mould making, with a focus on non-toxic plastics
Date: Postponed – date to be confirmed for September/October 2012
Venue: University College School, Frognal, London, NW3 6XH Course leader: Michael Cloke
Course Outline Advances in materials available to practicing designers and makers are constantly occurring, and many of these processes are not accessible to students. Modern plastics provide learners with the opportunity to experience thermosetting plastics first hand and use them to generate batch producible products of potential commercial quality, in an environment free from highly toxic fumes. With a practical focus this event will look at using non-toxic plastics in a school workshop environment, and suggest possible projects with a batch production theme.
Objectives – what will delegates gain • Knowledge and understanding of a range of plastics and how to use them safely in a workshop environment. • Mould making tips and tricks. • Project ideas with a focus towards the manufacturing aspect of GCSE written papers. • Free resources will be provided, to support the integration of non-toxic plastics into the school workshop.
Course start and end times: Arrive at 1630 for coffee; event runs from 1700 to 1900. Please report to the reception upon arrival.
