The Design and Technology Association has organised 4 Early Years Foundation Stage Courses for the autumn and winter :

TITLE Design and technology – part of the new statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework
FOR THE ATTENTION OF Primary head teachers, EYFS co-ordinators, design and technology subject leaders
THIS COURSE IS INTENDED FOR all those who are managing the implementation of the new EYFS framework
INTRODUCTION: Are you aware of the changes in the new EYFS framework? Have you planned for design and technology activities within your setting? This half day course is designed to ensure that you have appropriate planning in place that will provide children from ages 3 to 5 with exciting and authentic experiences. Course delegates will receive comprehensive planning guidance to support this process.
AIM This course aims to offer an insight into the new EYFS framework and offers strategies for the inclusion and implementation of design and technology
COURSE OBJECTIVES: To gain an insight into the new EYFS framework
To clarify the nature of design and technology
To explore ways of including design and technology in your Early Years curriculum

TITLE Getting to grips with Design and Technology in the new EYFS framework
FOR THE ATTENTION OF Primary head teachers, EYFS co-ordinators, design and technology subject leaders
THIS COURSE IS INTENDED FOR all those who are involved in teaching Early Years children
INTRODUCTION: Are you unsure of how to include the new statutory requirements for design and technology in your Early Years curriculum? Are you looking for new ideas for design and technology activities? Have you used design and technology contexts to support the development of prime and specific areas to make learning more effective? This course will provide solutions for you by offering a variety of practical, hands-on workshops.
AIM This course aims to ensure that all participants have a good understanding of the nature of design and technology and how design and technology can be implemented effectively in the Early Years curriculum.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: To clarify the nature of design and technology
To provide a range of appropriate practical activities that can be used in Early Years settings
To share strategies for implementing design and technology across the Early Years curriculum
THE COURSE WILL INCLUDE tutor input, demonstration, practical activities, group discussion, Q&A

About the tutors

Clare Benson has taught for many years in both Early Years and primary settings. She has been involved in the writing of 3 of the Early Years curricula and numerous Early Years publications. The findings from her major research project Designerly Thinking in the Foundation Stage have led to practical support through a range of exciting activities.

Gareth Pimley taught in KS1 and 2. Following eighteen years with Shropshire Advisory Service, he now works in a freelance capacity as a primary education consultant. He provides advice, support and CPD in design and technology and whole curriculum development to primary schools, LAs, companies and other organisations. Gareth was previously seconded to the Design and Technology Association as Assistant Chief Executive with responsibility for primary D&T.
