Design and technology sits on the continuum between the arts and sciences and the practical context that it provides to learn language and maths draws many pupils to the subject.
The Key Stage 3 review acknowledges how the ability to be able to draw on knowledge and skills from across arts and sciences is important in both national curriculum and vocational courses.
Increasingly, primary teachers are augmenting D&T projects by judicious use of science, art, history and PSHE to deepen children's understanding of the wider aspects of D&T.
Secondary teachers provide an effective means to learn sophisticated mathematical and scientific concepts through practical making activities and realistic engineering and manufacturing projects.
It is also important for all practitioners to link learning across key stages, and across courses and focus areas.
This three-day conference offered strands for all teachers and an individual programme for practitioners to remain in touch with the latest news about D&T, extend ones own professional expertise in managing a department or a focus area, increase your confidence in subject skills with practical workshops, and engage in debate about the teaching of D&T - its issues and challenges.
