Standards : SECONDARYThe standards for the award of QTS are outcome statements that set out what a trainee teacher must know, understand and be able to do to be awarded QTS. The full suite of standards is available here The QTS standards apply to all trainee teachers, whatever route they take to QTS. They allow providers autonomy in deciding how they will organise their training and respond to the training needs of individual trainee teachers. They do not set a curriculum, nor do they specify how training should be designed or managed. The revised QTS standards give ITT providers increased flexibility in the way they design their programmes, and encourage the use of professional judgement in the assessment of trainees. Many of the standards are inter-related, and single assessment opportunities will produce evidence for several different standards. The exemplification of standards provided HERE is designed to provide students and those assessing them with examples of the type of evidence that could be used to demonstrate meeting the relevant standard. They also serve to help beginning teachers understand what they need to know, understand and do in order to work in a professional way. Although this document does not refer to the new standards, it contains material that may still be of use in supporting the exemplification of good practice by beginning teachers. |
