Home Secondary New KS3 Curric Planning Strategies

The resources available here can be used to help plan project activity, linking it to the new curriculum programmes of study. Departments should consider this alongside the key stage 3 entitlement of knowledge, skills and understanding to which they have previously agreed. Please click HERE for the KS3 Suggested Entitlement of Knowledge... pdf.

The planning sheet requires the planner to consider how the activity addresses:

  • the importance statement and/or the key concepts;
  • knowledge, skills and understanding to be covered;
  • process and assessment focus for the project/activity (it is suggested three per project);
  • curriculum opportunities;
  • design and technology focus area;
  • project title.

It also provides a proforma to record other key aspects of the project including opportunities for developing literacy, technical vocabulary, ICT skills, extension skills etc.

To help plan and also assess the outcomes resulting from pupil activity, a grid has been developed that divides up the revised level descriptors, and arranges them in strands. Two versions of this have been provided, one for teachers and the second for pupils.  These sheets help ‘unpack’ what evidence of working at a particular level might look like. A blank proforma is also provioded so that individual criteria can be developed for a specific project/activity.
