Ben Goakes

I am a Registered Design and Technology Association Health and Safety Consultant (RDTHSC), fully qualified and registered to conduct CPD and Compulsory Training Courses for Teachers and Heads of Departments, in accordance with BS4163:2021 standards. Whether it's Refresher and Compliance Training for a highly experienced staff member or working with a teacher who is just starting their DT career, I can assist. Early Career Teachers or those transferring from other disciplines may benefit from a run through of all your projects at KS3 and this can be added on to any Compulsory Training that they may require. In addition, I can bring new ideas to enhance your curriculum.

My family and I live in the South-East and I am happy to travel nationwide to your school or college to help you ensure the safe and maximum usage of all available equipment for the benefit of your students. I have worked with very high-end kit, but have also worked in departments where budgets are tight, and I know that obtaining excellent outcomes for pupils is independent of the setting, if you are trained creatively and to a high standard.

Since graduating from Loughborough University in 2000 with a degree in Education and Industrial Design Technology, I have taught in various excellent educational institutions, both State and Independent, Co-educational and Single-Sex. I have gained valuable experience in the classroom, working with multiple curricula, examination boards, and ensuring the safe use of equipment to maximize benefits. I have taught at all Secondary Key Stages and consistently achieve exceptional results with my examination classes, I have also worked on the Cambridge ‘Designing Our Tomorrow’ Project,

I have been a Teacher and a Second in Department for 20 years and I have chosen to continue in a part-time capacity to ensure that my teaching methodology and pedagogy remains up-to-date with the realities of the classroom. Additionally, I am an experienced Moderator for AQA Design and Technology and can offer valuable advice in this area. My knowledge of practical work and health and safety within the Design Technology workshop is exceptional.

I have always been committed to the aims of the Arkwright Trust Scholarship and have served on the Interview Panel for many years. Therefore, I can also introduce this opportunity to students and conduct pupil workshops to help them start their applications, as well as supporting them through the process. Another passion of mine is Outdoor Education, where I have trained adults and children throughout my life, enhancing my training and interpersonal skills.

I hold full professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I am DBS checked, with a portable DBS certificate, and as a practicing teacher, I am fully up-to-date with Safeguarding issues, undergoing refresher training annually. I have conducted training in many schools to date and I look forward to meeting you.
