Phil is a lifelong engineer having started as a Drawing Office Apprentice, and subsequently working up to Board Level in design, development, and manufacturing of high-technology products. He has been self-employed since 2005 running his own engineering design consultancy focussed on design and development of sustainable transport.
Phil is a STEM Ambassador supporting schools across the UK in design and engineering activities. Since 2013 he has designed and delivered many of his own STEM activities based around industry-led sustainable transport projects, ensuring the content is current and industry-relevant.
Phil has been using, and training engineers, on CAD systems since the early 1980’s and has recently (2017) added 3D printing modules which are available for students from KS2 upwards. He is currently running a project to design and build the world’s quickest electric drag-racing motorbike!
Phil brings design and engineering to life, delivering lessons with examples from industry to show how engineers apply their skills and knowledge in their day-to-day work. As an industry insider Phil can discuss with authority where industry is heading, the latest developments in technology, and how this might impact the way we live and work in future… a genuine industry perspective on D&T.
