What is D&T? Options pack 2019
This package of leaflets, posters and video is intended to support school D&T departments to help inform students, parents and others in the school and help make clear the value of studying D&T.
In many schools, performance measures are squeezing the amount of choice pupils have with KS4 subjects. It’s also the case that D&T is often misunderstood, seen as ‘craft’ and not the sophisticated and comprehensive subject it is. To address this and support teachers and departments when promoting GCSE D&T as an option, we have made available the following specific resources.
Our FREE Options Evening Package includes:
Video: What is D&T – and why do we need it? - show this to students in lessons leading up to and at options events.
- Three career route posters: Textiles, Engineering, Product design
- Promoting transferable skills with D&T
- Mapping Out Careers
- Choose D&T poster and article from D&T Practice
PDF Leaflets: What is D&T...and why choose to study it?'
Printed copies of 'What is D&T... and why choose to study it?' can be purchased in bundles of 200 from the resource shop.
This package of resources can be used flexibly to promote the varied and career pathways that studying D&T GCSE can lead to. The leaflets and posters should be clearly displayed in the D&T department and in prominent communal spaces. The leaflet and posters also include QR codes to encourage students to use tablets and smart phones to find out more about potential careers.
Use the posters as a starting point for class discussion when promoting D&T as a GCSE option and to highlight the variety of transferable skills that it develops. These are required within a wide range of occupations – including medicine, law and finance.
