Design and Technology Association Ambassador Network

Published 12th September 2017

The Design and Technology Association is a membership organisation promoting the advancement of high quality Design, Engineering and Technology education. We have 11,000 members drawn from schools, universities, cultural institutions and employers. We operate within 60% of secondary schools and support many thousands more teachers through our training and CPD events.. We work closely with government, employers and trade bodies as well as a host of other partner agencies.

We believe that Design and Technology plays a key role in inspiring young people to consider careers in industries such as advanced manufacturing, engineering and the creative and digital sectors. The subject offers students the opportunity to apply principles of design, mathematics and science within practical real-world contexts. It introduces young people to a range of critical skills that are in high demand from employers: design, engineering, robotics, additive manufacturing processes, materials, textiles, electronics, computing, systems and control.

We also support employers who are keen to develop links with schools and colleges. Design and Technology is the ideal place to do this, where the application of theory and practical skills can give rise to some inspirational education-industry partnerships. If this is something that interests you, then please do contact Emma.watson@data.otg.uk to discover how you can get involved.

Whilst the subject has experienced some challenges in recent years, we are keen to ensure that Design, Engineering and Technology are positioned as critical areas of the curriculum, key to any government’s plans for an education and skills system that meets 21st century needs.
