For every problem encountered...there is a solution!
The Design and Technology Association is working with The Oceanova Group to offer a new and exciting training route into D&T Initial Teacher Education. The aim of this partnership is to supplement the established pathways into teaching design and technology, adding additional numbers of professionals to schools nationally. The scheme will help to address and improve the recruitment and training of D&T teachers through the established ‘Premier Pathways’ training programme, delivering cohorts of high-quality teachers into the subject.
Premier Pathways is a two-year salaried route into teaching for graduates, with an enviable success rate of 92%. The design & technology scheme just launched has already had hundreds of expressions of interest from aspiring design and technology teachers in the South East of England alone.
This exciting additional ITE route will utilise training carried out in ‘home schools’ who will have the opportunity to request their trainees for September 2019 with accredited training at Buckingham University leading to a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status in the second year. Schools can select the right candidates for their environment and school ethos through interview days arranged by Premier Pathways. Candidates presented for school interview will have already passed through two qualifying stages to ensure that all candidates are suitably experienced and qualified to embark upon initial teacher education in design and technology.
87% of Premier Pathways trainees stay in their school as an NQT after completing training and there is no finders-fee or additional cost to the school. Trainees are employed flexibly by Oceanova to avoid any potential contractual problems (there is therefore no risk incurred by the school) The school pays a termly fee of £7,800 which includes all pay, employee on-costs and training.
