Edge Foundation - 14-19 Education: A New Baccalaureate

Published 29th September 2016

The Design & Technology Association welcomes Edge Foundation’s recommendation to broaden the EBacc to include the creative and technical skills that will be in most demand from employers across the UK’s key growth sectors – design, creative, technical, engineering and manufacturing.

We are also happy to see that this report once again brings into sharp focus the stark reality what is happening in schools as the result of the narrowing of curriculum and the removal of choice for young people. Rather than limit life and career opportunities, we hope that Lord Baker’s report will make the case for a balanced approach to education that fosters the creative, design and technical skills and potential that are necessary to ensure a strong pipeline of talent into the UK’s future facing industries.
