Final Countdown for School Food Champions

Published 9th March 2016

The School Food Champion (SFC) Programme has been supporting food teachers with resources and activities focused on school food to help achieve increases in their school meal uptake.

Now entering it's final half term this pilot programme has seen some fantastic results.  Over thirty champions have achieved 5% increases in their school meal uptake for 3 or more consecutive half terms.

Some champions have achieved increases as high as 30% as a result of raised awareness of school food and collaboration with the school meal providers.

Working with pupils and SLT has been vital in helping the champions to achieve these amazing results and examples of these include using Y12 as dining room prefects, introducing a grab-bag loyalty scheme for pupils who also do sports at lunch time and pupils designing meals for introduction to the school menu.

As the programme comes to an end we would like to congratulate and thank all our champions for their hardwork and commitment to the programme and we look forward to supporting our champions with sustaining their increases.
