GCSE and A level Update

Published 3rd August 2016

Awarding organisations (AOs) submitted their draft specifications for the new single title D&T GCSE AS and A level to the regulating body Ofqual, in May.  Ofqual set up subject specific groups to scrutinise these and make recommendations.  The group has now referred all of the first submissions to the AOs with details of amendments they need to make and issues that need addressing.  The detail of this feedback is not published.  This is all normal and based on the experience of other subjects going the through the accreditation process, we are not surprised that none made it on first submission.

The progress and status of each submission can be found here.

AOs will be working hard over the next few weeks to address issues raised by Ofqual and resubmit their amended specifications during or shortly after the summer.  Depending on how these are received, we are still hopeful that final specifications will begin to emerge at some point during the second half of the autumn term.  It is likely that GCSE specifications will be addressed first and will be available shortly before A level. This should still allow 2 school terms for planning how to teach them, starting in September 2017.
