Get ready for The Alu D&T Challenge 2016/17

Published 14th July 2016

The Alu D&T Challenge is back for another year!  Your students have the chance to win great prizes for themselves and your school whilst learning about the importance of sustainable design.

The Alu D&T Challenge supports the D&T curriculum for 11-14 year olds and aims to inspire students  to get creative and design a sustainable product using aluminium.  The free online resource contains lesson plans, stimulus sheets and guidance for teachers. It includes three design briefs which are based on challenges faced by designers, engineers and manufacturers in industry today; focusing on transport, building and packaging.

During the autumn term designs can be entered into the national competition.   In each category there will be prizes for the best team and individual designs, and the winning schools will receive a 3D printer.  The winners and their teachers will be invited to a celebration and prize-giving event at Thinktank Science Museum in Birmingham on Wednesday 8th March 2017.

Every school entering the Challenge receives a certificate, and shortlisted schools will receive a prize and named certificates for the pupils.

The 2016/17 Alu D&T Challenge resource booklet and full details about the competition will be available to download from August.  To register for more information just visit the website and you’ll be the first to know when it goes live.  The first 100 registrants will receive a free classroom poster on the 6R’s of sustainable design.

The Alu D&T Challenge is run by D&T Association member Alupro on behalf of the aluminium industry.
