iD&T West Midlands Progress

Published 9th November 2016

Innovating D&T:West Midlands ( iD&T:WM) is an exciting new initiative aimed at helping schools implement a modernised D&T curriculum.

Sixteen teachers from the eight participating schools attended our first twilight meeting at Birmingham City University in October.  The meeting focused on what good D&T looks like with the teachers having a chance to meet, share and start to make connections with colleagues in other local schools. By mapping their current curriculum onto the D&T Association’s Key Stage 3 Programme of Study coverage audit, the schools have a clear, visual representation of how their units of work meet the 2014 National Curriculum. This will inform departments as to where changes need to be made in order to prepare for the Core section of the new D&T GCSE.  As a result of this audit, all of the schools have chosen which  D&T Association Key Resources to trial this term.  Heidi will be visiting each school during this time, to either observe lessons being taught or to team teach a session. Departments have also undertaken a skills audit in order to help identify areas for future CPD that can be built into future department planning.
