Innovating D&T: West Midlands (iD&T: WM) Update

Published 8th December 2016

We are very happy with how things are working out with our 8 hub schools in the West Midlands.

Our focus to date has been on identifying and filling gaps in department’s curriculum in preparation for the Core section of the new GCSE. Heidi Ambrose-Brown has been busy visiting the schools and observing lessons being taught using a variety of the D&T Association’s Key Stage 3 Key resources.  We have been delighted to see how the teachers have adapted the resources to suit their requirements and how the students have engaged with the activities.

Our second twilight discussed the importance of the D&T environment, and ways in which it could be used to engage students and raise the profile of the department in the school.  Thanks to Shireland Collegiate Academy for showing us around their impressive space.

Next term we will be running a course on programmable components as well as two further twilights which will provide support to our teachers in areas where they have requested further training requirements, including engineering.
