Progress with GCSE and GCE Review

Published 3rd December 2015

The DfE have established a new timeline for the development of GCSE and A level D&T leading up to first teaching of the new specifications from 2017. They are currently advertising to appoint an ‘Expert Drafter’ who will assist the process and play a key role in a small writing group they are establishing.  This group will group will meet several times over the next few weeks to build on the work already done on the Subject Content. It is likely that there will be a second short public consultation in the summer.  The aim is to allow enough time after this for Awarding Organisations to develop their Specifications for accreditation by Ofqual around April 2016.  This will provide schools with  well over a year to prepare for introduction.  The D&T Association intends to support schools in the process with events and publications during this period.

The situation with respect to Food related GCSEs remains the same. New specifications are currently being prepared to address the recently published title: Food preparation and nutrition and its  Subject Content.  We are still waiting to hear more details about assessment requirements  which will be announced in due course by Ofqual.
