Published 27th September 2019
Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of designers, engineers or digital entrepreneurs?
The Design and Technology Association is looking for high profile candidates to join the board of this prestigious organisation and contribute to its work shaping design, engineering and technology education in the UK and helping to inspire more young people to develop industry-critical skills.
The Design and Technology Association is a charity dedicated to the advancement of high quality education and skills delivered in the UK. It promotes continuous improvement in the delivery of education and training in design, engineering and new technologies.
Design and Technology is the study of how to think, develop and make a better world: innovating new products, services and experiences from concept through to design, manufacture and use. It is part of the National Curriculum and provides all primary and secondary school pupils with the opportunity to learn about a wide range of industry-relevant skills, including design, engineering, electronics, additive manufacturing, robotics, fashion, textiles and computer control.
The subject offers a unique introduction to the design, creative, engineering, manufacturing and digital sectors, and can help to prepare young people for a wide range of exciting career pathways. Students develop higher-level thinking skills and technical capabilities, many of which are critical to meeting future skills needs along with contributing to meeting local, national and global challenges such as creating ethical and sustainable futures and addressing issues such as climate change.
Our Board is comprised of leading figures from business and education who are passionate about working with the Design and Technology Association to support schools, colleges and universities in developing skills that the UK economy needs and ensuring increased opportunity for all young people further broadening the perspective in their future lives and careers.
We are looking for exceptional individuals with a passion for education and the ability to support the Design and Technology Association as part of the Board of Trustees.
In the coming months, several board members’ terms of office will expire, including our Treasurer, hence this opportunity to recruit new talent to strengthen our knowledge and experience in the following five areas:
- Education – primary expertise/leadership
- Supporting and developing membership
- Marketing, Communications and PR
- Expertise of Academia/HE
Our Trustees approve the strategy and plans for the Association and provide the high levels of governance and oversight that you would expect for a leading UK institution. Trustees are also ambassadors of the Association and promote its activities to key stakeholders in government, education and industry.
Trustees should be successful leaders, with experience of working at senior levels. They need to be passionate about design, engineering, technology and manufacturing education and employment in the UK.
