New Skills for Industry Opportunity

Published 29th November 2017

Are you a Warwickshire based Secondary School? Would you like the opportunity to work with one of two prestigious Warwickshire based employers?

We have approached Warwickshire County Council for funding to run a further Skills for Industry Programme.  The programme will offer selected secondary schools in Warwickshire the opportunity to work with our highly prestigious local industry partners Severn Trent Water and Jaguar Land Rover.

The programme will be designed to develop your students’ skills linked to industry skill requirements and will be closely aligned to the Design and Technology GCSE.  There will also be opportunities for your students to meet apprentices from these employers, and find out more about engineering and manufacturing career pathways and opportunities.

Feedback from teachers and students on our previous Skills for Industry programmes is extremely positive. 77% of teachers stated that our project helped them to talk more confidently about the range of career opportunities and apprenticeships that D&T can lead to. One of our teachers from Rugby said “the project was designed well with plenty of helpful, useful and relevant material. The students & I were fully engaged and enjoyed being part of it. Thank you for the wonderful resources and support”. In addition 73% of students learned new industry skills and 68% were more aware of the career opportunities available to them.

The project will be for a period of 6 – 8 weeks to be delivered during the 2018 Spring or Summer term. Up to £250 worth of resources will be provided to support the project which includes the teaching resources.

If this is of interest, and you would be able to complete this project with one class of students (Years 9 if appropriate, 10 or 11) studying Design and Technology at GCSE, supported by the Design and Technology Association and employers please, send me an email to stating that you would like to be involved in this project.

We would be able to confirm your involvement in the project in December if we are successful.
