Teachers in Residence programme at Husqvarna - What a Success!

Published 6th March 2020

During the half term break Mr Wilkinson, Head of Design Technology of Red House School, Teeside, attended a three day Teachers in Residence programme at Husqvarna. The programme, organised by The Design and Technology Association, enabled Mr Wilkinson to spend time in each of the departments that Husqvarna operates.

These ranged from the initial moulding of each of the 2600 different plastic components used on the various assembly lines, product development and support, through to the manufacturing assembly lines and quality control.

Mr Wilkinson said: "The programme has given me a great insight into what engineering employers are looking for in school leaver employees, helping to ensure our pupils have the skills and aptitude for the employment roles that are offered. Seeing first-hand the processes and facilities at Husqvarna, who are a global leader in outdoor power products for forestry, park maintenance, lawn and garden care, as well as talking to industry experts, has been extremely beneficial.”

Further placements are available for teachers to take part in. For further information or to register your interest in the scheme, please contact Lata Patel
