The Design Museum is Moving!

The Design Museum is moving! It will close the doors at its current site on Thursday 30 June, relocate to the former Commonwealth Institute building on Kensington High Street and open on 24 November 2016.
The new Design Museum will offer visitors three times more space than in its current location at Shad Thames, with the brand new Swarovski Foundation Centre for Learning, 194-seat Bakala Auditorium and a dedicated gallery to display its collection, which will be accessible free of charge.
The first exhibition from the museum’s Chief Curator, Justin McGuirk, is Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World. Fear and Love is about our hopes and doubts and the pace and impact of change. Designers are being commissioned to create installations evoking and responding to contemporary design.
For the first time in the museum’s history, it will have a free permanent display: Designer Maker User, which tells the story of contemporary design through these three interconnected roles using the museum’s collection. The flagship Designs of the Year show will return for its ninth outing. Read moreBack to News
