Mascot to promote composting at school

In this unit children develop an understanding of the design of soft toys and learn to design and make their own mascot based on an outdoor creature (in this case an earthworm). The unit can be closely linked with Science (life processes and living things) as well as Literacy (information texts, e.g. information booklets on worms). Through an investigating and evaluating task children explore soft toys, particularly ones based on outdoor creatures, and how they have been assembled. Focussed practical tasks include ways to create segments in the worm’s body.
The resource includes teacher planning, a helpsheet, a pupil PowerPoint and three pupil worksheets.
The resource does not include changes to meet the EYFS Statutory Framework and does not include the updated early learning goals or assessment.
