In this project children are encouraged to consider different types of homes and who lives in them. As well as helping to develop basic construction skills, the resources encourage a fresh approach to this familiar project by looking at individual needs and inclusive design. It was developed with the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC), an independent body established to advise Government on the transport needs of disabled people.

The resources include a helpsheet, worksheet, SMART Notebook™ files and two PowerPoint presentations. The presentations are well illustrated with interior and exterior photos of different types of home and will prompt children to consider different aspects of homes, including the names of and different types of houses and homes, names of the main parts of a home: door, window, path, roof, wall, and asks questions such as Who lives here? Do all buildings have windows? Are all windows and doors the same shape/size? What sort of doors and entrances do they have and how easy is it to get to them? and What are walls made from? The helpsheet contains instructions for constructing models as well as further questions and ideas on who a home might be made for.
