Casing – 3D CAD using Autodesk Inventor
Ages 11-14 years
First published 2015
This project is aimed at teaching students how to design products which have cases. Students will design a casing around a given PCB (which can be manufactured or conceptual), and use basic Autodesk Inventor functions including sketch, extrude, shell and fillet, but also use more advanced functions to enhance product designs including split, lip & groove and offset.
Autodesk Showcase will allow for high quality renderings to be generated and there is the option of 3D printing a ‘snap together casing’ that is designed for disassembly and takes 3D printing to a more challenging level.
This CD-based product includes:
• PowerPoint presentations of six lesson plans.
• Project overview.
• Nine instructional videos guiding students though the design process using Autodesk Inventor.
• CAD files for all stages of creating the casings and for PCBs.
• Rendered images and engineering drawings.
Inventor Professional is free to student and educators.
