Teachers will receive support and guidance with:

  • Curriculum planning across 5 years, including KS3, to ensure all content is covered
  • Teaching aspects of the specification that are not their area of specialism
  • How to deliver content when working in a small department without a wide range of material specialist facilities
  • Developing fundamental understanding of basic engineering principles by way of mechanisms, electronic systems and programmable control
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of the properties and uses of all material areas required for the GCSE specifications
  • Understanding what is meant by working from contexts and an iterative design process
  • Ideas and techniques that encourage creativity – using design strategies to avoid fixation
  • Techniques for developing students’ skills in writing design briefs and specifications

The course supports all the Awarding Organisations’ specifications and promotes the development of a Key Stage 3 curriculum in accordance with the 2014 Programmes of Study on which the Subject Criteria for the new D&T GCSE was based.

You may find it useful to bring a printed copy of the Awarding Organisation Specification that you are using in school, when you attend this course
