Details

Following the recent release of the Education Policy Institute research paper, 'Spotlight on Design and Technology', The Design and Technology Association is following this up with a series of Roundtable events engaging school leaders and governors, business leaders and policymakers and FE/HE.

We are using these meetings to determine actions that need to be taken to secure the subject's future in the school curriculum. The EPI paper is clear in its assumption that without action, entry numbers at GCSE and A Level will continue to fall and the subject will become further marginalised.

Working with our colleagues at RAEng, the Association has gathered a large bank of data over the last three years. It will use this data (including over 3,000 detailed survey responses by teachers) together with direction collected from the roundtable meetings to compile a short paper to be released this summer in advance of political Party Conferences.

Whilst we have a large body of evidence from teachers, we are aware that some of this is now close to two years old, and we are aware that a lot has changed within the last two years. To this end, we are organising a series of teacher events in major cities across the UK in June. These events will be held after school from 4.00 to 6.00 pm and will provide an opportunity for teachers to attend and let us know both the strengths and barriers to delivery within your school.

Meetings have been organised in:

Birmingham
London
Brighton
Liverpool
Manchester
Newcastle
Bristol
Cardiff

These consultations are free for members and non-members. Places are limited and booking is essential. Join us for a tea/coffee and a biscuit and let's discuss where we are in your school and what we collectively need to do to put this subject that we love back where it belongs.
