This course is for site staff using a variety of power tools, some of which are not normally used by teachers and students.
The aim of this course is to provide site staff with the knowledge, skills and understanding to demonstrate competency in the safe and correct use of 10 portable power tools in the workplace: Angle Grinder; Biscuit Jointer; Jigsaw; Planer; Router; Belt Sander; Circular Saw; SDS Hammer Drill; Reciprocating Saw; Multi Cutter. On completion of the course colleagues will have a good understanding of the relevant Health and Safety issues, and know the hazards that may arise and the risk control measures that need to be put in place to complete a risk assessment on each tool.
Content of the course - Health and Safety legislation - Issues for the purchase/acquisition of portable power tools for use by site staff - Completing risk assessments for each tool - Training and certification of staff - The safe use of portable power tools, including: Safe operating procedures for each tool Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Use of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and Noise at Work Lone Working procedures Maintenance and Inspection of Power Tool.
