Science, Maths and Engineering concepts are now key components of all of the new Design and Technology GCSE specifications, and will contribute towards a sizeable chunk of both the written exam and non examined assessment (NEA) of the course. This one day professional development course explores ways of meeting the Science, Maths and overall STEM requirements of the recently published revised Design and Technology GCSE, which will be first taught from September 2017.

The morning session will provide you with a better understanding of the published GCSE content and focus on how you can incorporate Science, Maths and STEM into your D&T teaching at both KS3 and KS4. You will consider and discuss ways to ensure that your students are suitably prepared for these important aspects of the new GCSE course.

The afternoon will focus on how programmable components can be used to enhance both D&T and STEM teaching. It includes a practical session, working with Crumble, an easy-to-use micro-controller, which is programmed using simple, free, easily accessible software based on Scratch. This will develop your knowledge and understanding of Programmable Components and ways in which you can teach this aspect of D&T, to ensure that your students are introduced to concepts in advance of their GCSE course beginning.  Knowledge of the use of programmable components to embed functionality into products in order to enhance and customise their operation will be a requirement for all GCSE courses.

All attendees will receive a free crumble starter kit. ALL DELEGATES WILL NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN LAPTOP.
