Convert your Individual membership to Departmental membership

Many of our individual members are convincing their schools to invest in secondary Departmental membership from the school budget

This offers your school tremendous value, member support and invaluable engagement for your whole team and allows them to budget for resources, events and CPD at discounted rates. We are happy to help you with the conversion from individual to Departmental membership.

Importantly our new Design and Technology Self-Review Framework is really applicable to Departmental member schools as it assesses and evaluates your whole department to help you show your senior team the value of Design and Technology across the whole school and its curriculum.

Becoming a Secondary Design and Technology Teacher

Teacher education in England is administered by the Department for Education. It is a graduate profession so you must first have a degree then achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). In order to gain QTS, you need to complete an initial teacher training (ITT) course. There are a number of ITT routes to accommodate individual circumstances and backgrounds, and you can find more information about these from the Department for Education.

If you have a passion for Design and Technology and want to inspire the next generation with your skills, now is the time to train to be a Design and Technology teacher.

Please note that training to teach in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland varies slightly from training to teach in England.
