Freely available to Primary School members, the D&T Self-Review Framework is a tool which is designed to make monitoring and evaluation easier and more effective.  It provides clear descriptors and examples of standards that constitute quality D&T based around: Curriculum Planning; Teaching and Learning; Leadership and Capacity and Resources and Safety.

Secondary Self-Review Framework (SRF)

Freely available to Secondary Department members, the Framework is intended to help you review the overall provision of D&T within your department, to determine the quality and effectiveness of all aspects of the Design and Technology provision in school It provides clear descriptors and examples of standards that constitute quality D&T based around: Principles for learning in D&T; Curriculum for learning in D&T; Environment for learning in D&T.

Why do we need to Self-Review?

With the launch of the 2014 National Curriculum, revised programmes of study and the objective-based approach to assessment, as well as the Ofsted 'Common Inspection Framework', it seemed timely to revisit and revise the original ‘Design Mark’ accreditation to create a new self-review tool and quality mark for Design and Technology.

The Self Review Frameworks will help primary schools and secondary D&T departments to:

  • Fully evaluate their current provision
  • Efficiently store and manage evidence
  • Plan to fully address the National Curriculum programmes of study for D&T and the EYFS Framework (for primary)
  • Improve curriculum planning, teaching and learning, leadership and capacity, and resources and safety
  • Effectively address Ofsted’s focus on self-evaluation
  • Ensure that the contribution that D&T makes to a broad and balanced curriculum is recognised within the school community

The Frameworks provide access to examples and a range of resources, both printed and web -based, that schools can access to aid their development and improvement.
