Bolton Primary Hub Hosts D&T Event

The Bolton Primary Hub recently held an engaging Design and Technology event at St Thomas of Canterbury School, focusing on effective planning strategies for primary teachers. The event, facilitated by Clare Lightbown, the PTI Primary Hub Centre Lead, featured our Curriculum Consultant Paul Woodward who aimed to equip participants with practical skills and resources to enhance D&T teaching in primary classrooms.

The event commenced with introductions followed by Paul Woodward's lecture on "Working Smarter, Not Harder" which gave attendees valuable strategies to optimise lesson planning and delivery in D&T.

A Q&A session followed, allowing teachers to delve deeper into incorporating the presented ideas into their classroom practices. The event also featured two comprehensive workshops led by Paul. The first workshop, titled "Resourcing Made Easy," focused on breaking down ‘Projects on a Page’, offering practical insights into teaching mechanisms and simple sliders/levers. The second workshop, "Making Movement," explored powered vehicles, providing hands-on experiences for educators to implement in their teaching.

During the “Creative Collaboration” session, attendees worked collaboratively to leverage ‘Projects on a Page’ to develop comprehensive curriculum plans tailored to their schools' needs. The event concluded with evaluations and departures, leaving participants equipped with valuable insights and practical tools to enhance their D&T teaching.

Paul’s vast teaching experience and industry expertise provided attendees with invaluable insights and resources to elevate their D&T teaching practices.

The event equipped teachers with practical planning strategies and encouraged ongoing professional growth and development in D&T education.

Participants gave brilliant feedback from the session; “Paul was fantastic and gave us so many practical ideas to take back to school. I loved it and wish I could do this every week.”

“It was a practical session and provided progression across the curriculum for both Key Stages.”

“It’s really useful doing things that can be taken back to school!”
