An Excellent Introduction to C.A.D. and Control

Our Director of Education Ryan Ball recently delivered our C.A.D. and Control into Primary D&T course in Wembley. This face-to-face session was well attended and feedback was exceptionally positive. One attendee remarked, ‘it’s an excellent introduction to C.A.D. and Control software and hardware.’ The course includes how to incorporate C.A.D. and Computer Control into the KS1 and KS2 curriculum that has clear intent and purpose and develop delegates knowledge around 2D, 3D C.A.D. software and microcontrollers. Another attendee comments, ‘It was the most useful course I have been on. It was fantastic and I can’t wait to put what I have been taught into practice.’

There are a range of areas covered with another delegate mentioning, ‘It’s been very useful to have a go at crumble, micro:bit and Tinkercad with demonstrations, support and advice from Ryan’. Our trainers' knowledge and expertise combined with guidance and support ensured all attendees left the session feeling far more confident in the subject. 

C.A.D. is a vital component in learning and can help children develop spatial thinking skills.  When working in three-dimensional space children have to think about how objects relate to each other in terms of size, shape, and placement. In the past, children might have been given a sheet of paper and told to ‘design something.’ However, with C.A.D. children can experiment with different ideas and see the results of their changes immediately and emulating how professional designers work. It can be a great way to get pupils interested in design and technology from a young age. In an increasingly technology-driven world, those who can use C.A.D. will have a distinct advantage in the job market. It is therefore essential that students are given the opportunity to learn this valuable skill from a young age.
