John Christopher Jones, Professor of Design Passes Away

Professor and Author, John Christopher Jones, a Welsh design researcher and theorist passed away on the 13th August 2022, aged 95.

In the 1970s and 80s, his ‘Design Methods: Seeds of Human Futures' and early work as Professor of Design at the Open University were highly influential in the early development of Design Education. His explanation of Design, as ‘the initiation of change in the man-made world’, was used as the basis of the innovative Oxford A83 Design A level. He was an early advocate of user-centered design and ergonomics and also explored the use of chance in creating design solutions.
