Half-day, online course (Zoom link will be provided)

A live, online, half day Zoom course for secondary D&T teachers. Working with contexts is key in Design and Technology yet can provide challenges for teachers and students. This course explores the freedom and opportunities open to students when working from contexts within Design and Technology and is an opportunity to discover and embed key strategies for developing the skill set required by students in KS3, before embarking on their GCSE live contextual challenge.

Course objectives:

  • Investigation of techniques and stimuli to encourage design creativity and innovation
  • Access to, and exploration of, a toolkit of suggested approaches to deliver D&T with a user-centred approach
  • Discussion and advice around the implementation of contextual designing to help with the Non-Examined Assessment for GCSE
  • Analysing contexts
  • Non-linear approaches to design
  • How to link to the NEA

By participating in this course, you will:

  • Understand how to embed context into your current curriculum
  • How to adapt and change to ensure a user-centred approach
  • To ensure your D&T curriculum works towards developing skills and attributes required for success in the NEA
  • Live contextual challenges will not be discussed on this course in line with Awarding Organisations regulations.

This is an online course. In order to achieve the greatest outcome, maximise engagement with our trainer and gain the desired skills from this course, we require you to have your camera switched on throughout the entire session. We encourage discussion and are more than happy to answer questions during the session. Please note, the trainer may kindly request delegates mute themselves for short periods of times throughout the training session.
