Half-day, online course (Zoom link will be provided)

This online, half day course is ideally suited to secondary school D&T teachers of GCSE whether they are new to GCSE delivery or established and wish to develop their own practice. During the course we will discuss best practice, guidance and advice to ensure you plan and deliver a suitable D&T GCSE course.

Course Objectives:

  • Develop a clear understanding of the requirements of GCSE Design and Technology*.
  • Investigate the structure, content and delivery methods of an effective Year 10 that combines practical knowledge, exam content and techniques and appropriate preparation for the NEA.
  • How to prepare and guide students through their NEA.
  • Explore options for effective delivery of the theoretical content including revision techniques.
  • How to support and encourage students to work independently within an iterative design process.

By participating in this course, you will:

  • Have a greater understanding of the requirements of GCSE Design and Technology*.
  • Be able to plan and deliver an effective 2 year GCSE course.
  • Have greater confidence in supporting students NEA projects.
  • Have greater confidence in teaching GCSE D&T to a wide range of student abilities.

*Whilst the course will address the general requirements of GCSE Design and Technology, it will predominantly use the AQA specification for reference.

This is an online course. In order to achieve the greatest outcome, maximise engagement with our trainer and gain the desired skills from this course, we require you to have your camera switched on throughout the entire session. We encourage discussion and are more than happy to answer questions during the session. Please note, the trainer may kindly request delegates mute themselves for short periods of times throughout the training session.

Paul Woodward – Curriculum Consultant

Paul has been teaching D&T for almost 30 years with most of those years as a Head of Creative Arts Faculties or as Head of D&T. Following a degree in 3D design, Paul initially trained for the Post 16 sector, so he has extensive experience of teaching A Level D&T, but he has taught the subject from KS2 onwards in a wide variety of schools ranging from Pupil Referral Units to Prestigious International Boarding schools. Paul’s MA is in Education specialising in Professional Development in Teaching and Learning which led to him working as a consultant, course designer and presenter for D&TA alongside his industry and teaching roles…
