House of Lords Select Committee on Youth Unemployment - Thursday 24th June 2021, Firstly, I am delighted that we were invited to present to this committee. This is the first time that I have attended a select committee, and I must admit that I found the process (all on Zoom) incredibly reassuring. Speak up for Design and Technology

Speak up for Design and Technology, The Design and Technology Association have already begun to hold a series of roundtable discussions looking at how we build from the recently released Education Policy Institute research paper 'Spotlight on D&T'. This considerable decline in take-up is extremely worrying...

The Future of D&T – You had your say

The Future of D&T – You had your say, The EPI report 'Spotlight on D&T education in England' paints a pretty bleak picture of the subject's current status in English schools. As I have stated so many times, it's becoming a bit of a personal mantra; you don't encourage change by grieving where you are now; instead, you look ahead to what you might become. Following the release of the EPI paper in late March, we held a series of roundtable discussions with school, business, and sector leaders to look at the baseline that the research has provided,...

Response to Pearson Press Release - Proposed Design & Sustainability qualification, The Design and Technology Association welcomes calls for a revised version of the design and technology curriculum and acknowledges the need for managed subject reform. Pearson presented their thoughts to the Association at the end of November. While there are many aspects of the proposals presented that we are happy to support, there are also areas of some concern, and it was felt that we required more detail before responding in full.
